Aliens, could be with us!

Parasyte is a movie starred by Shota Sometani and directed by Takashi Yamazake. In the movie, Shota portrayed Shinichi Izumi.
The movie is all about a boy (Shinichi) who has been invaded by an alien, which he named, Migi. Usually, the aliens would go inside human's brain, and Shinichi was lucky for his brain was not taken over by the alien because he has his headphones worn. Not lucky enough, Shinichi's hand was invaded instead. Migi then explpained why he has to use Shinichi. The alien told him that if one of them dies, one of his kind would also die. At first, the boy was unsure if his going to trust the alien, but he agreed eventually. That is because a parasyte had killed his mother and had her body taken over. Because his has become eager of fighting the aliens.

I have learned in the movie that there will come a time that our loved ones would be gone. That is because in the movie, Shinichi doesn't seem to appreciate what his mother was doing for him. He only realized that when her mother died. So, as long  as our loved ones are still with us, we should let them feel that we love them and appreciate their efforts for us. Give time for them, and do not just focus on other things, such as phones and other gadgets.Love them as much as we can. That's all.

Sana Dati

"Sana Dati" is not just a typical love story where couples will have happy ending. This movie is realistic. It shows that love is not only about happiness, it is also full of complications.
The story started with a flashback of the love story of Andrea and Andrew wherein they will be Andrew opening a flower shop. While Andrea was moving things, she found a ring inside a flower vase and Andrew started to propose to her. The scene was cut after that (present time) Andrea was getting married without her knowing that the cameraman (Dennis) that her auntie hired was the brother of her ex-boyfriend (Andrew) who already passed away. At the first place, we thought that Andrea was going to be married to Andrew, but unfortunately, we were wrong. She was getting married to a politician named Robert. Later on that day, Andrea found out about the cameraman and they both went to the rooftop and discussed about the traits of Andrew. Andrea's parents got worried because they can't seem to find her. After talking for awhile with Dennis, Robert found Andrea at the Rooftop and continued the wedding. After the wedding ceremony Andrea left a piece of paper for Andrew telling him to escape with her after the wedding. But Dennis didn't follow her and decided to go home instead. After a few weeks Andrea visited the grave of Andrew and handed back the ring that was given to him.

Reflection: There are circumstances in our live that we don't plan to happen. Maybe it is our God who planned for those to happen. Remember, he has better plans for us.

The Real Jon Santos

Last February 11, 2016, Jon Santos visited Asia Pacific Collge. He visited not as Miriam Defensor, Erap Estrada, PNoy, and not every personality he has impersonated. He came as himself. He said that it was unusual for him to do that. I’m glad that he gave us the chance to know who really is.
In our school, he did a talk entitled, “Follow your passion, I did!” There, he did not just had a talk, but he also gave us a glimpse of his show, “WTF: Wala Talagang Forever… sa Malacanang.” We laughed so hard with his punch lines. Like everytime he says something funny, we died laughing. His humor is really undying. To make us laugh was not merely the reason why he came to the school. He came in order for him to share to us what he had experienced in his job, and through those experiences, he reminded us with some pieces of advice. In his talk, he gave us 10 things that we must give importance:

1. We must listen. How can we learn if we do not open up our ears and listen? Listening is essential, especially for teenagers. There are a lot of things we do not know in life, and the only to discover those is to listen.

2. All learning will enrich you. I agree with this. If everyday in our lives we’ll learn, everyday we could also improve our lives. That is because these learning could pave ways for our success.

3. Learning what you love will make you even richer, make you the richest person. I also agree with this. If we do something we love, no matter how that maybe, we’ll still be successful.

4. Knowledge is everything. It only tells us that above all things, knowledge is the most important.

5. Win the war before you fight it

6. Adjust, adopt, and evolve. It’s not easy for everyone to adjust. Then, do it gradually, and become someone new.

7. This is all rootless strategy.

8. Always be grateful, even in small things. Remember, great things came from small things.

9. You are never alone in your journey. You have your family and friends when you go on a journey.
They’ll support you no matter what, so do not be scared in doing what you want.

10. Love yourself and then let go of yourself. Lose yourself because it’s the only way to live.

I’ll make sure I keep all of these reminders in my mind. That way, I can be successful in the field that I want to take.

·         In 1927, she was invited by Paz Marquez Benitez, the literary editor of Philippines Herald Magazine, to write a column for the said magazine.
·         The same year, she, along with other writers in the campus, formed the UP Writers’ Club.
·         The UP Writers’ Club publication ran a short story by Latorena, “A Christmas Tale.”
·         Latorena wrote a poem under the pseudonym, Mina Lys.
·         Before the year ended, she won the third prize in Joe Garcia Villa’s Roll of Honor for the Best Stories of 1927 for her story, “The Small Key.”

·         In 1934, her doctoral dissertation, “Philippine Literature in English: Old Voices and New,” received the highest rating of sobresaliente.

The Small Key: Summary

The story is about a woman named Soledad. She has a husband named, Pedro. Pedro keeps two keys. One key is big and shiny while the other one is small and rusty. He keeps them in the pocket of his jacket. He gave the big one to Soledad and did not remove the other one from his pocket. One day, it was too hot, so Pedro had to remove his jacket before leaving to the field. When Soledad folded the jacket, the small key fell.
The small key is for a different trunk. She can’t stop thinking about it. Eventually, she opened the trunk using the small key and had known that the trunk contains clothes of the first wife of Pedro. She feared that, Pedro is still in love with her. What she did was she burned the clothes. Pedro knew it later on. He became angry about it but still decided to forgive his wife because he loves her. Still, he was sad about the happening.
The Small Key is one of her works. The story above is the summary of it. Enjoy!

Moral of the story: If we know that we love a certain person and that person also loves us back, we should not doubt it. That could start a conflict in the relationship.

Aim for Smoke Free World!

 Facts about Smoking:
·         About 100,000 people in the UK die each year due to smoking.
·         If you are a long-term smoker, on average, your life expectancy is about 10 years less than a non-smoker.
·         The younger you are when you start smoking, the more likely you are to smoke for longer and to die early from smoking.

Funny, right? Don’t we still want to stop smoking?
·         If we stop smoking, before having cancer or some other serious disease, you avoid most of the increased risk of death due to smoking.
·         The benefits begin straightaway. You reduce your risk of getting serious disease no matter what age you give up. However, the sooner you stop, the greater the reduction in your risk.
·         If you stop smoking before the age of about 35, your life expectancy is only slightly less than that of people who have never smoked.
·         If you stop smoking before the age of 50, you decrease the risk of dying from smoking-related diseases by 50%.

These cigarettes contain nicotin.  Nicotin is the addictive stimulant that gives you the craving to smoke. Also, if you are a regular smoker, when the blood level of nicotine falls, you usually develop withdrawal symptoms, such as:
·         Craving.
·         Anxiety.
·         Restlessness.
·         Headaches.
·         Irritability.
·         Hunger.
·         Difficulty with concentration.
·         Just feeling awful.

In order to be relieved in these, people tend to smoke again.

Cigarettes also contain carbon monoxide. This chemical affects the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood. This may be dangerous for pregnant women. Their babies won’t get enough oxygen for their growth. That’s why there are babies who were born abnormally.

What diseases could we get from smoking?
·         Lung Cancer- also known as lung carcinoma, is a malignant lung tumor characterized by uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung. If left untreated, this growth can spread beyond the lung by process of metastasis into nearby tissue or other parts of the body.About 30,000 people in the UK die from lung cancer each year, and m ore than 8 in 10 cases are directly related to smoking.
·         Heart disease- This is the biggest killer illness in the UK. About 120,000 people in the UK die each year from heart disease. About 1 in 6 of these is due to smoking.
·         Rheumatoid arthritis- Smoking is known to be a risk factor for developing rheumatoid arthritis. One research study estimated that smoking is responsible for about 1 in 5 cases of rheumatoid arthritis.
·         Sexual problems- Smokers are more likely than non-smokers to have erection problems (impotence) or have difficulty in maintaining an erection in middle life. This is thought to be due to smoking-related damage of the blood vessels to the penis.
Smoking affects children too.
·         When there are people smoking where they stay,
·         they have a high risk of having asthma, ear and nose infections.
·         they would have a possibility of becoming smokers when they grow old
·         they will not be well enough when it comes to reading skills and reasoning skills.
·         a great possibility for them to have cancer.

Start your stop smoking plan with START

S = Set a quit date.
Choose a date within the next two weeks, so you have enough time to prepare without losing your motivation to quit. If you mainly smoke at work, quit on the weekend, so you have a few days to adjust to the change.
T = Tell family, friends, and co-workers that you plan to quit.
Let your friends and family in on your plan to quit smoking and tell them you need their support and encouragement to stop. Look for a quit buddy who wants to stop smoking as well. You can help each other get through the rough times.
A = Anticipate and plan for the challenges you'll face while quitting.
Most people who begin smoking again do so within the first three months. You can help yourself make it through by preparing ahead for common challenges, such as nicotine withdrawal and cigarette cravings.
R = Remove cigarettes and other tobacco products from your home, car, and work.
Throw away all of your cigarettes (no emergency pack!), lighters, ashtrays, and matches. Wash your clothes and freshen up anything that smells like smoke. Shampoo your car, clean your drapes and carpet, and steam your furniture.
T = Talk to your doctor about getting help to quit.
Your doctor can prescribe medication to help with withdrawal and suggest other alternatives. If you can't see a doctor, you can get many products over the counter at your local pharmacy or grocery store, including the nicotine patch, nicotine lozenges, and nicotine gum.
I hope this information could somehow help the smoking ones to quit it. Remember, life is a gift of God to us. We must take care of it.

Destiny Just Met the Parallel Lines

“Life is full of coincidences…even two parallel limns might someday meet”. It’s a quote from the movie that really caught my attention, I like the way it was related in the characters story. The parallel lines symbolize Eve Choi and John Liu. Parallel lines in Math, do not meet. Even how many times you try to meet them, they won’t. But in the movie, that concept was just broken. They were like those lines at first. One is on the left and one is on the right. If not like that, one is over and one is under. They just don’t meet, but because of destiny, they end up together.
At first, I thought the movie’s genre is horror, because there are scenes that are kinda scary. One scene is when a grim reaper appeared in the front of Eve. Another is when Eve is screaming inside her house because of some creepy sounds. So yeah, I thought it’s a horror movie.
I really enjoyed, especially it made me believe in destiny. Haha! I’m just kidding. Seriously, I enjoyed it.
I love the scenes where they almost meet, but then some things happened and hindered it from happening. The movie gave us suspense, and I like it. I also like the way the artist portrayed their characters. Their emotions in the movie were realistic, and I was moved by it. Though, few characters were shown, their actions were big and had a great impact to me.
What I learned in the movie is that when you want something, strive hard, but don’t hurry it up. Take some time. When the time’s right for you, then it will come. Also, if one thing is really destined for you, no matter how long it would take for you to get it, it will still be for you.

ECE-151 Got the Magic!

Winning the Cheers and Chants Competition is like a magic, unbelievable. Yeah, I never thought that we could win because we lacked of time to practice and when we plan to practice, not all of us attend. Aside from that, almost all of our competitors are taking Multimedia and Arts (ABMA) and ABMA students are known in winning in these kinds of contests because as we all know, they are creative, imaginative and productive. They're really a threat to us, but it doesn't mean that we have to be discouraged. We used it as a challenge instead. I'm glad 'cause because of that challenge, our brains worked hard to come up songs and chants. In a short period of time, we became composers and musical directors, really funny. Our adviser, Ms. Nina Javier was a great help too. She was with us in our every practice. She checked if we have synchronized moves, if our voices are loud and clear, and many more. So I'd like to use this blog of mine to thanks Ms. Nina. Without her, we wouldn't be magical as we want to be.
The day of the competition came... We arrived in the school early to have our final practice. Thankfully, all of us went early and our practice went well. Hours later, we had received a notice to go to the auditorium, where we'll perform. At first I did not feel nervous, 'cause I really thought that what we are about to present is really good and our costumes are really nice, we had t-shirts printed uniformly and also had metallic foils in our wrist which made us look like superheroes. "A piece of cake", I told myself. The moment we entered the auditorium, the piece of cake was crashed. We're not the only one who got printed t-shirts. Some had make up on their faces, some of them got cool props, and above all, almost all of them are plenty in terms of members. We're only 20! Jeez! "How can we defeat them?" I asked myself. Still, we walked to our assigned seats with our chins up.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you to SOE and SOMA Cheer and Chants Competition", announced by Mr. Nomer Yuzon, host of the said event. Our hearts were like drums hit 100x per second. That became 1000x when Sir Yuzon announced that we are going to perform last. And... the contest started. First to perform was ABMA 151. T_T They're many. It'll be easy for them, they don't need to shout anymore. Their performance was good and so as the rest of the ABMA sections. The section. The section that made our heads bald was the CPE-151. That is because they had thisgimmick of turning the lights off and all we saw are their hands floating in the air and also, they had cool costumes are props, they were really amazing. They got a big chance of winning. After them, it's us who performed next. A mixture of excitement and nervousness filled my body. Before we go in the stage, our adviser reminded us to louden our voices. When we stepped on the stage, we did nothing but to shout our thing. Our moves though not really synchronized amazed the audience. I admit, our performance was not perfect but I believe it was the best. I guess, that's the reason why we won. Maybe the judges saw the heart we put in our performance. We really thought that CPE will win, instead they won 2nd place. I guess there are things that made us stood out. Still, all of our competitors did great.
I wonder, will we also be successful in Speech Choir Contest? That's what we are going to find out.

Think of Your Own!

What is PLAGIARISM? According to www.plagiarism.org, plagiarism is copying another’s What is PLAGIARISM? According to www.plagiarism.org, plagiarism is copying another’s work or borrowing someone else’s original ideas. While www.lib.usm.edu said that it is the act of taking another person's writing, conversation, song, or even idea and passing it off as your own.
These days, copying is an easy thing to do.  But don’t we know that copying is a serious offense? People who do it may pay monetary penalties or may be imprisoned if the case is that serious.
If plagiarism is a crime then why there are still people who do it? Some reasons maybe because the don't know how to construct their ideas to words, do not know what to do for their research and maybe they are simply lazy, and depend on the internet or others' works.
To understand plagiarism further, in September 18, 2013, an alumnus of University of the Philippines named Mark Joseph Solid won the top prize in the Smiles of the World photo contest conceptualized by the Chilean Ambassador Roberto Mayorga.

What you see under is the photo Solis had submitted for the contest. The caption stated that the boy is from Zamboanga and the boy is helping his father plant seaweeds. Because of this photo, he won 1000 dollars and roundtrip tickets to Chile and Brazil.
Days after, Gregory John Smith, a social entrepreneur, said that the photo belonged to him. He said that the photo was from Brazil and but from Zamboanga.
A post from a Facebook page named, Narinig ko sa Up (Overheard from Up), said that Solis had done it like 5 times since 2011. He entered several photo contests and all of the photos he submitted were stolen.
Because of that, his prize was taken back and chose another winner. His master’s degree might also be stopped.

From Solis’ story we can really say that plagiarism is such a serious matter. We should learn from his experiences.
To avoid such offense, we should learn how cite. The purpose of citation is to prove that the work is well researched and give credit to the real owner.
Let's stop plagiarism!

Me, Myself, and I

Hi! I am Cylord Joy G. Palahang. I'm 17 years old. I graduated from a science high school in Taguig.
In that school, I used to be the captain of its Taekwondo Club. I love my duty there. I train new recruits. It was fun sharing my knowledge to them and seeing them apply the things I've taught to them is like an award.
I'm not really the one who chose Taekwondo as my sport, it was my father. Of course, at first I didn't agree of training because who would have want to be kicked in the face instead of just playing toys in the house? I'm anti-violence.But because I'm a good boy and was too scared of my dad that time, I didn't have a choice.
I cursed every training I had. I feel like going to hell every week. Back then, I didn't know why many people loved that sport even though most of them had their nose bleeding, got their front teeth wiped out and had black eyes. Why would my papa let me enter in this thing? He's reason was only because he wanted me to learn  how to protect myself. Well I thought it as a valid reason so I continued. In my almost 10 years of training, I also found some time to enjoy it. Just simply because I have friends there. I am friendly especially to those I'm comfortable to be with. I never like to hang-out to those who are so boastful and prone in violence because as I said, I am a non-violent guy.
When I became a black belter, that was the only time I loved Taekwondo because aside of not having my body kicked, I also had the chance to teach. One of my favorite things to do is to teach. It feels like I could be part of one's success and for me, I don't see the reason of learning things and not sharing it. Everytime we learn something, we should always share this to other people because no matter how small or big it is, it can still change one's life.
This sport has boosted my confidence.Because at first, I had lacked of self confidence. But Taekwondo made me realized that I can surpass difficult and hurtful things. It prepared me for the extreme battle in the world. That's why I'm forever grateful that Taekwondo became a part of my life.
