Think of Your Own!

According to www.plagiarism.org, plagiarism is copying another’s work or borrowing someone else’s original ideas. While www.lib.usm.edu said that it is the act of taking another person's writing, conversation, song, or even idea and passing it off as your own.
These days, copying is an easy thing to do.  But don’t we know that copying is a serious offense? People who do it may pay monetary penalties or may be imprisoned if the case is that serious.
If plagiarism is a crime then why there are still people who do it? Some reasons maybe because the don't know how to construct their ideas to words, do not know what to do for their research and maybe they are simply lazy, and depend on the internet or others' works.
To understand plagiarism further, in September 18, 2013, an alumnus of University of the Philippines named Mark Joseph Solid won the top prize in the Smiles of the World photo contest conceptualized by the Chilean Ambassador Roberto Mayorga.

What you see under is the photo Solis had submitted for the contest. The caption stated that the boy is from Zamboanga and the boy is helping his father plant seaweeds. Because of this photo, he won 1000 dollars and roundtrip tickets to Chile and Brazil.
Days after, Gregory John Smith, a social entrepreneur, said that the photo belonged to him. He said that the photo was from Brazil and but from Zamboanga.
A post from a Facebook page named, Narinig ko sa Up (Overheard from Up), said that Solis had done it like 5 times since 2011. He entered several photo contests and all of the photos he submitted were stolen.
Because of that, his prize was taken back and chose another winner. His master’s degree might also be stopped.

From Solis’ story we can really say that plagiarism is such a serious matter. We should learn from his experiences.
To avoid such offense, we should learn how cite. The purpose of citation is to prove that the work is well researched and give credit to the real owner.
Let's stop plagiarism!

  1. The best plagiarism checker http://essaytools.com is a teacher who can tell what his students' level of ability is and is not, thereby making any electronic tool unnecessary and redundant. When I was a teacher, I could tell right away what was legitimate and what was bunk simply as a result of speaking to the students, meeting their parents, and knowing what they could and could not produce on paper. And copying from Wikipedia and trying to rewrite it, is usually so stilted as to be transparent
